Air Weapons: February 24, 2002

Archives

The Air Force has conducted two successful tests of the Small Smart Bomb Range Extension weapon. SSBREX consists of a 250-pound bomb, the GPS guidance kit from JDAM, and the Diamondback wings kit developed by Alenia Marconi. The idea is that many targets can be destroyed by a smaller weapon put in just the right place, and an attack aircraft could carry more of these smaller weapons and thereby attack more targets on a given mission.--Stephen V Cole
