Marines: January 6, 2000

Archives

The British Royal Marines have purchased three new Mk8-Mod1 Seal Delivery Vehicles from the US Navy's Coastal Systems Station. These have twice the range and 50% more speed than the Mod-0 boats which the British now use. The Seal Delivery Vehicle is basically a mini-sub designed to deliver commandos to the beach. These are used because the speed of a frogman in the water (about 1 mph) is too slow for most commando missions. --Stephen V Cole
