AM General is trying to sell the Army on the idea of using a very modified Humvee truck as the Recon-Surveillance-Target Acquisition vehicle in the Future Combat System. Their idea would use the frame of the Humvee but would install an armored body with a turret mounting a 25mm cannon and a missile launcher, turning it into a four-wheeled armored car. AM General notes that using a proven chassis already supported by the maintenance system would save tens of millions in the development process for Future Combat System.--Stephen V Cole
