Northrop Grumman has unveiled its new ALMDS Airborne Laser Mine Detection System. This uses a laser (mounted on a helicopter) to scan the ocean for naval mines. The system is entering engineering and manufacturing development next year. In this phase, the assembly line will be set up.--Stephen V Cole
