The British Army has asked for bids on 64 new Medium Mobility Patrol Vehicles for use by the SAS regiment to replace their current land rovers. This new vehicle is to carry three soldiers as part of a 1,600kg payload. The vehicle must be able to carry machineguns, or a 40mm grenade launcher, or a Milan anti-tank missile. The vehicle should be able to carry fuel and food for a multi-day deployment. It must fit inside a C-130 and a CH-47 heavy lift helicopter must be able to carry it as an external sling load. The SAS would prefer a 4x4 vehicle but would consider a 6x6 if it was light enough to meet the mission requirements.--Stephen V Cole
