Turkey is once again in the market for a set of four AWACS aircraft, now that the Treasury has agreed to provide all but $600 million out of the civilian budget. (The military will cover the $600 million from its own budget.) Several alternatives are under consideration, but the favorite is thought to be a Boeing-737 fitted with a Northrop-Grumman electronically-scanned multi-role radar. Thought to be the second most likely candidate is an Airbus 310 refitted by Raytheon with an Israeli Phalcon radar.--Stephen V Cole
