The Marines have issued a contract to buy 13,000 small, hand-held, non-secure, radios of the type used by deer hunters, campers, and other civilians. These will be issued to infantry squad and fire team leaders and will replace the current system of shouting, hand signals, and written messages carried by runners. The Marines expect to find these radios particularly useful in a urban environment.--Stephen V Cole
