The US has refused to compensate Taiwan for any of the four F-16s which have crashed. The first three were not recovered; the fourth was found to have a defective engine. The 150 fighters were sold on a "letter of offer and acceptance" which had no guarantee or compensation clauses.--Stephen V Cole
