Submarines: October 6, 2001

Archives

Flight testing has begun for the SH-60K anti-submarine version of the SeaHawk. This is a Japanese designed and built upgrade of the SH-60J design used by the Japanese navy. This has a cabin 13 inches longer and six inches higher than the J-model to accommodate the improved systems including a new sonar, tactical computer, deck-landing system, anti-submarine tactical judgment system, and infrared detectors. It can also carry anti-ship missiles and a gun. --Stephen V Cole
