December20, 2006: U.S. counter-terrorism forces in Djibouti were quick to respond when the recent storms in Kenya isolated thousands of homeless victims of the heavy flooding. Most of the people in need of help were Somali refugees. U.S. Air Force C-130 transports flew from their base in Djibouti, to drop 200 tons of supplies by parachute, and land another hundred tons at relief centers. The air drops were well executed, with only about two percent of the material dropped, damaged. Missions like this make a very favorable impression on the people being helped, and they tend to tell others, and spread the good will.
