In the south, an American patrol ran into a group of fifteen (or more) Taliban. One American soldier was killed and another wounded, along with an Afghan interpreter. At least one of the Taliban was killed and two wounded.

In the south, a Taliban died when the roadside bomb he was setting up went off accidentally.
