Greece announced its armed forces will conduct a training exercise near the northern Macedonian border from September 10 to 14. The exercise is named Philippos 2001. The Greek defense ministry announcement indicated the exercise would be a large-scale combined arms exercise. Is there a message? Of course. The Greeks fear spill-over trouble from Macedonia. There are also Albanian minorities in northern Greece. On the flip side, there are ethnic Greeks living in southern Albania.
