A gun battle between Pakistani police and anti-American demonstrators left four civilians dead. Some 5,000 demonstrated, but a call for a nationwide strike failed. The government has arrested 550 Islamic radicals in overnight raids. The majority of the population, while against US operations in Afghanistan, are not backing demonstrations against the government. In Kashmir, rebel violence left seven rebels, two civilians and two soldiers dead. Violence in Kashmir is up 50 percent over last year. There were 3,882 incidents so far this year, with 1,606 rebels, 939 civilians and 117 security personnel killed. In the last ten years Indian troops have seized 22,897 AK-47 assault rifles, three million rounds of ammunition, 9,018 pistols, 1,060 machine-guns, 323 sniper rifles, 705 rocket launchers and 3,965 rockets from rebels.
