In Kashmir, rebel violence left nine dead. 

In northeastern India, tribal rebels (ATTF, All Tripura Tiger Force) attacked a marketplace and killed nine Bengalis (non-tribal) migrants. The tribes in the north east have, for decades, been fighting against non-tribal people moving into their territory. In Tripuras state, where these attacks took place, tribal peoples now make up only 30 percent of the 3.1 million population. Most of the other are Bengalis, who have migrated over the last three decades, largely illegally, from adjacent Bangladesh (which is overpopulated.) To avoid Indian police and army actions, the ATTF maintains it camps across the border in Bangladesh. The tribal rebels have been active here for about 20 years, with the violence killing over 10,000 so far.
