A de-facto ceasefire along the Kashmir Line of Control took effect as there was no machine-gun or artillery fire along most of the line. 

India says that more troops, armed with better technology, have cut considerably the number of Kashmiri rebels crossing over from Pakistan. In the last six months, 93 groups of rebels have been intercepted by Indian border guards, and over 300 rebels were killed, with many more fleeing back into Pakistan. India says that there are 2,500-3,000 rebels active in Kashmir, with only a third of them being Kashmiris (most of the rest are Pakistani Islamic militants.) The level of violence in Kashmir has been declining lately, down to some six deaths a day.

In northeastern India, ten days of tribal fighting in Assam have left at least 52 dead. Separatist tribal militias (the NDFB and ULFA), have been attacking Hindi migrants, killing them in order to force Hindus to leave the tribal territories.
