There are currently some 9,000 American troops stationed in Kuwait. Warehouses in Kuwait and Qatar (comprising 4.5 million square feet) hold equipment form another 9,000 combat troops (who can be flown in and be ready to fight on 96 hours notice.) The equipment includes 230 M-1 tanks and 40 self-propelled 155mm howitzers. There is also 30 days worth of food and fuel stored there. Equipment for two more armored brigades (one for the marines) are stored aboard ships at Diego Garcia (which would take about a week to move to the north end of the Persian Gulf.) In Bahrain and Kuwait, equipment for three field hospitals (784 beds) are also stored.

American and British warplanes, after being fired on, hit two radar stations in  southern Iraq.
