An American U-2 recon aircraft crashed on take off at an airbase 80 kilometers south of the DMZ. The U-2s do not fly into North Korea, but fly along the DMZ and use their sensors to detect ground operations up to a hundred kilometers into North Korea. The US only has 32 U-2s, now 31.
