Several hundred former government troops rioted in the capital. Armed with knives and clubs, the men looted shops and marched on UN headquarters complaining that they had not received the second half of their $300 disarmament payment. UN peacekeepers eventually showed up and dispersed the rioters, but not before one was killed and several were injured by shopkeepers who joined together to defend their property.
