Over a thousand rebels made multiple attacks in an area 300 kilometers west of the capital. A major assault was made on the home of the Interior Security minister. This was guarded by 120 members of the new Armed Police Force (a light infantry organization for fighting the rebels). At least 35 police were killed defending the minister's home. Rebels also attacked a police station, a bus full of civilians, two banks and a power plant. Elsewhere, police killed ten rebels in several clashes.
