Months of pursuit by the police and military are having an effect on the Abu Sayyaf on Jolo island. The rebels have cut the ransom demands (from $150,000 to $75,000) for three Indonesian sailors and three Filipino Christian women they are holding. The word is that the rebels need the money, having burned through the millions they collected two years ago. There are over 5,000 troops and police on Jolo, and a few hundred Abu Sayyaf out in the bush.
