The Burundian government reported that 15 Burundi Army troops died in a battle in the Tenga forest. The firefight took place December 14 with an FNL rebel unit. A senior army office (a major), identified as a camp commander, was killed in the firefight. This report indicates that the Burundi Army may well be trying to set up a more permanent base camp in the area, in order to contest the FNL presence. Reports in late November and early December made available to StrategyPage suggested this was the intent of the Burundi Armys Tenga offensive to establish permanent positions in the Tenga forest. The Tenga serves as an iron triangle base camp area for the FNL.
