During the first week of August, the fragile peace in Sierra Leone began to unravel as rebels (AFRC members) took UN observers and staff hostage. Journalists, a bishop and some two dozen 37 people were taken. This happened in the Occra hills, about 40 liometers east of the capital Freetown. The bishop and six others were released, but the others are still held captive. The rebels involved say they are not satisfied with the peace agreement conditions. The adults were part of an effort to seek the release of children the rebels forcibly recruit. The rebel leaders deny involvement in the hostage taking. The rebels are also seized two hundred children earlier. On August 7^th, the rebels agreed to release their hostages.
