July 31, 2006: In the south, Islamic terrorists have increased their attacks on schools, in an effort to get "un-Islamic" (government) schools shut down. The schools are a major source of resistance to radical Islamic thinking. If the Islamic terrorists can get the schools shut down, it will hurt the economy, and make it easier to recruit young men into Islamic terrorist organizations.
July 30, 2006: There continues to be 5-10 killings a week by Islamic terrorists in the south.
July 27, 2006: The commander of the armed forces has been given more authority to deal with the Islamic terrorism in the south. The armed forces will now coordinate all other government efforts in the south, and have control over all police and paramilitary forces in the south.
July 24, 2006: Two Islamic terrorists, dressed in school staff uniforms, walked into a classroom and shot dead a Buddhist teacher who was giving instruction to twenty ten year old children. There several other attacks on schools, or school staff in the south.
July 22, 2006: Islamic terrorists in the south have threatened to kidnap non-Moslem teachers who remain at their teaching jobs in the south.
