Former members of the Angolan UNITA rebel organization selected Isaias Ngola Samakuva as party president. Essentially, Samakuva replaces Jonas Savimbi. UNITA is well along the road to becoming a political party. UNITA has 70 parliamentary seats in the Angolan parliament (out of 223). Meanwhile, the Angolan government chose a new chief of staff. General Agostinho Sanjar Fernandes Nelumba will now run the armed forces.
