A recent poll in Taiwan indicated that 75 percent of the population backed armed resistance to any attempt by China to take over Taiwan by force. But a similar survey in 1998 showed 88 percent of the population preferred fighting an invasion. Since China is still basically a communist dictatorship, the unelected leader of China could order an invasion attempt at any time.
